Durban – Kamberg Nature Reserve: 184 km approximately 2.5 hours

Roman Baths 11.8km round trip (4.5 hours)

This relatively unknown hike is a true gem. A comfortable, 5.9km’s from the trout dams with a moderate uphill on the way (note it is possible to shorten the hike by driving to the “no entry” sign.)

Roman Baths is a great spot for a family outing, a swim and lunch on the banks of the river. 

Game Pass Shelter Hike (Bushman paintings) 6.8km round trip (3 hours)

“No more do we Bushmen hunt in these hills. The fire is cold. Our songs are quiet. But listen carefully. You will hear us in the water. Look carefully, you will see us in the rock.” 

The hike passes under the spray coming off game pass shelter in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains.  A comfortable day hike which rises to the sacred place of the San people a world class attraction.

Aasvoelkrans Cave Hike 10km round trip (4.5 hours)

The trail tracks over grasslands where Reedbuck are often spotted before seemingly disappearing down to a cave looking out onto a gushing waterfall. Brave the crisp mountain water in the pool below.

A moderate day hike with beautiful views of the vast landscape beyond.

You will need:

– Comfortable walking shoes and hiking attire

– Rain jacket (weather in the mountains can be unpredictable)

– Sunscreen, sunglasses and sun hat

– Water bottle  1L depending on your fitness. I will carry extra water on me

– Swim suit and towel

– Lunch and snacks
